Dr. Chuan-Hua Chen is an Associate Professor and Hunt Faculty Scholar of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at Duke University, where he directs the Microscale Physicochemical Hydrodynamics Laboratory (µPHYL). Dr. Chen received his B.S. degree in Applied Mechanics from Peking University (1998) and Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University (2004). Prior to joining Duke in 2007, he held positions as a postdoctoral associate at Princeton University and a research scientist at Rockwell Scientific Company. Dr. Chen is a recipient of the NSF CAREER Award and the DARPA Young Faculty Award for his research integrating physicochemical hydrodynamics and interfacial engineering. His work has been featured on the covers of Physical Review Letters and Applied Physics Letters, and reported by professional and popular media including Science and The New York Times. Graduate Students Hongtao (Alex) Guo received his B.S. degree from Beihang University majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He joined Duke University as a Ph.D. student in 2015. Kris F. Wiedenheft received his B.S. degree from North Carolina A&T State University majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He joined Duke University as a Ph.D. student with a Dean's Graduate Fellowship and an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship in 2015. Undergraduate Students Maya S. Patel is a Class of 2018 student at Duke University majoring in Mechanical Engineering. She joined the µPHYL group as an undergraduate researcher in 2016. Curran A. Shan is a Class of 2017 student at Duke University majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He joined the µPHYL group as a Pratt Research Fellow in 2016.
